The information you provide on the inquiry form will enable us to send you specific information about programs of interest to you. You will also create a username and password which you can use once you apply to track online the status of your application. (We will send you your log in credential and link to the application portal once we receive your application.) If you have already received electronic communication from Loomis Chaffee's Admission Office during the 2016-17 academic year, you do not need to complete another online inquiry.
A personal interview is required of every candidate, and the best time for a visit is while school is in session. During your visit, you will take a student-guided tour of our campus and you will meet with a member of the Office of Admission for your interview.
Your visit will take approximately two hours. The best time to schedule an interview is between September and the end of January. If distance precludes a visit to campus, please let us know, and we will arrange for a telephone, Skype, or off-campus interview. You may schedule your tour and interview by calling the Office of Admission at 860.687.6400.
Appointments run Monday through Saturday, starting at 8:30 a.m. A full schedule of appointment times can be found on theVisit webpage.
There are two online application options: Gateway to Prep Schools application and SAO (SSAT) application. Please choose the application that works best for your family as well as the one that is recommended by your school. Loomis has no preference of application, and students will not be treated differently based on the submission of a specific application type. However, we do ask that you submit only one application; starting or submitting more than one type of application creates duplicate records in our system and delays the processing of your application.
Option 1: Gateway Application
NOTE: Before submitting the Gateway application, please be sure to make an online inquiry (Step 1 above) if you have not already done so. Once we receive your application, we will send you a link to your online admission portal as well as your login credentials. From the portal you will be able to track the status of your application.
Option 2: SSAT Application
NOTE: Before submitting the SSAT application, please be sure to make an online inquiry (Step 1 above) if you have not already done so. Once we receive your application, we will send you a link to your online admission portal as well as your login credentials. From the portal you will be able to track the status of your application.
You will also need to submit an essay, which is part of the SSAT section called “Student Questionnaire” or the Gateway section called “Short Answers and Essay.
NOTE: In order to complete the online application, you must pay your application fee via credit card at the time of submission. The only exception is if you have been granted a fee waiver. Please contact the Office of Admission for further instructions if you are requesting a fee waiver. The application fee is $75.00 for students who are living in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, or $160.00 for students living in another foreign country. All fees must be drawn from a U.S. bank.
Depending on the grade to which you are applying, Loomis requires official transcripts for specific grades directly from your school(s) as well as specific standardized testing (see chart below). Please note that transcripts should include first quarter or trimester grades. Loomis Chaffee’s SSAT code is 4672. Our TOEFL school code is 8137. Please be sure to request, at the time the test is taken, that the test results be sent directly to Loomis Chaffee. If your school is mailing your transcript please ask them to send it directly to the Loomis Chaffee Office of Admission.
SSAT Standard Test dates:
October 15, 2016
November 12, 2016
December 10, 2016
January 7, 2017
February 11, 2017 (The February test is late for those applying for the first round of admission. However, if this is the only date possible, please notify the Office of Admission.)
