Loomis Chaffee Launches Centennial Campaign

Declaring “Our Time Is Now,” Loomis Chaffee publicly launched a $100 million capital campaign on October 23 with a heart-warming and heart-felt gala at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Campaign co-chair Joel Alvord ’56 announced that the school so far has raised $69 million in commitments toward the goal. Read more.


 


Pianist Christopher Durrenberger '84 Visits the Island

Some may think that to “prepare” a piano means to have it in place, dusted, and tuned. But the American composer John Cage (1912–92) wrote specific pieces for “prepared” piano, and visiting pianist and scholar Christopher Durrenberger ’84 enlightened the school community about Cage’s intentions during his visit to the campus September 28–30. Danielle Coombe '10 Gives Island Recital

Mezzo-soprano Danielle Coombe ’10 visited the Island October 9 and 10. Having recently graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor’s degree in music, Danielle returned to share her talent with the community, offering a voice recital Thursday evening in the Hubbard Performance Hall and working with the Chamber Singers in class on Friday morning. Eight Alumni Coaching This Fall 

If you are looking for a classmate with whom you'd like to get back in touch, a good place to start might be the Loomis Athletics Department. Becci Manson — Monday, November 3

After the 2011 tsunami that devastated Japan, professional photo retroucher Becci Manson, along with a group of her fellow professionals, began retouching badly damaged photographs found among the wreckage. Join Ms. Manson on November 3 at 7 p.m. in Gilchrist Auditorum as she talks about the power of photography to preserve memories and shape our pasts.  Learn more.

 

Jon Goodman '71 Art Opening — Tuesday, November 4

Join us Tuesday, November 4 at 6:45 p.m. for the opening reception of the Jon Goodman '71 exhibit in the Mercy Gallery. Mr. Goodman is a master of photogravure and photography. His exhibit will run until Thursday, December 11.  Learn more.
