NEW Winter Athletic Awards Dessert
Reminder to all varsity athletes and coaches that the winter athletic awards dessert will be held on Sunday, March 26, at 6:45 p.m., in the Loomis Chaffee dining hall. Parents of student athletes are welcome to attend.
 
 
NEW Managers Needed for Girls Track & Field
Need a sport? want to be part of an energetic and dedicated team? Think of joining the Girls Track team. We are looking for 2-3 managers to help with statistics, videography, and our general sport digital journalism. Please contact Mrs. Hutchinson.

REMINDER College Office Miniseries: Tuesday, March 28
Interested in the University of California?On Tuesday, March 28, any students interested in learning more about the University of California campuses, including the application process, are welcome to attend a miniseries on the topic to be held in Brush 203, from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This is particularly targeted towards juniors interested in learning more about the UC's but is open to any student. Hope to see you there!
College Office Miniseries: Pet a Pup – On Tuesday, March 28, the College Office will repeat its popular fall miniseries, puppies and munchkins, for any students needing a break from college-process related stress. Come by the front of Chaffee from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., weather permitting, and enjoy some downtime with our furry friends!
 
 
REMINDER Summit Test Prep
Summit Test Prep classes will continue on Wednesday, March 29, in Gilchrist Auditorium as well as the Clark Science Center classrooms. The ACT prep classes will take place in classrooms 114, 116, or 118 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please be on time. Questions or concerns should be addressed to Mrs. DeConinck.
 
 
NEW Dark Matter Speaker 
The Physics Club will hosting a guest speaker, Alisa Monte on Thursday, March 30. Ms. Monte works for DarkSide, a physics laboratory in Italy. Her work involves searching for dark matter, which makes up much of the universe's mass, but has yet to be detected. The first event of its kind, it will be very interesting and will take place in Gilchrist at 7:15 p.m. All are welcome.
 
 
NEW Student Choreographers for Dance Revue
Student Choreographers interested in submitting work for Dance Revue must email Kate_Loughlin@Loomis.org by Friday March 31. Student choreography is chosen for inclusion in Dance Revue BY AUDITIONS, from April 25-28. Dance Review runs May 17-19.
 
 
NEW Student Council Annual Blood Drive: Monday, April 10
Do you want to make a difference in other people's lives? Do you want to become a lifesaver? It's time for you to participate in the Loomis Chaffee Annual Red Cross Blood Drive organized by the Student Council. On Monday, April 10, 2017, Red Cross Staff will be in Olcott running the blood drive from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. To sign-up, look out for the Blood Drive booth right outside the dining hall during lunch periods starting this Friday, March 24. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Preethi Kannan.
 
 
The Role of Athletic Recruiting in the College Admissions Process: Friday, March 31
The College Office and Athletic Office will co-sponsor a panel on the role of athletic recruiting in the college process on Friday, March 31 in Hubbard Performance Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30pm. College coaches and admission officers will be here to answer questions and share information that will be useful to student-athletes navigating this process. The event is open to parents and students.

Calling all sophomores and juniors who are interested in the Norton Fellowship! Mr. LaForest and Mrs. Pond are eager to hear your ideas! Please check out the application materials and then stop by the Norton Center to ask questions about the program or to share your thoughts with us. Deadline: Saturday, April 1.

 
 

REMINDER Elizabeth Chang (P '17) in Recital

Please join the Music Department welcome back Elizabeth Chang (P '17) in recital on Monday, March 27, at 9:55 a.m. in Hubbard Performance Hall. Ms. Chang has established a multifaceted career as a performer, teacher, and arts administrator. Pianist Alissa Leisure, recognized as both a soloist and collaborative artist of technical skill and interpretive command, will join Ms. Chang. The two will be performing Violin Sonata's by Beethoven and Ravel. This is a recital not to be missed! (Concert credit given for attending.)

Please see the pass/fail option guidelines, and if interested be in touch with Mr. Lawrence with any questions. Seniors/PGs are allowed to take a course pass/fall under certain conditions, and may do so as late as four weeks into the spring term (by April 14).

Dr. Xiangming Chen
"Understanding China's Role in the Developing World"

An author and professor of sociology, urban planning, and policy, Xiangming Chen is an expert on the comparative and transnational facets of global-urban relations in the local and regional contexts of China and Asia.


A native of Bejing and a graduate of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Mr. Chen holds a doctorate in sociology from Duke University. Mr. Chen is a guest professor at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and an honorary research fellow at the Institute of Economics of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences; at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences; and at the IC2 Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. He previously taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also directed the International Studies, Asian Studies, and Sociology Departments' graduate programs. He served on the editorial board of City & Community and is on the international advisory board of Journal of Borderlands Studies. A recipient of numerous fellowships and grants in his fields of study, Mr. Chen has authored several books and more than 80 journal articles related to urban planning and policy.

 
 

UPDATE Performance at River Street School

The Instrumental Music Club​ is planning to give a concert at the River Street School, a local school for kids diagnosed with autism. This will be a great volunteer opportunity.

Dates to consider: April 12 and April 19 (both are Wednesdays).
Time: 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Loomis will provide transportation to and from RSS.

If you are interested in giving a performance (solo or ensemble), choose a date you would prefer (April 12 or 19) and email Ms. Bovell, Rosie Park or Andrew Donshik.
