Dr. Xiangming Chen
"Understanding China's Role in the Developing World"

An author and professor of sociology, urban planning, and policy, Xiangming Chen is an expert on the comparative and transnational facets of global-urban relations in the local and regional contexts of China and Asia.
A native of Bejing and a graduate of Beijing Foreign Studies University, Mr. Chen holds a doctorate in sociology from Duke University. Mr. Chen is a guest professor at Fudan University in Shanghai, China, and an honorary research fellow at the Institute of Economics of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences; at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences; and at the IC2 Institute at the University of Texas at Austin. He previously taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also directed the International Studies, Asian Studies, and Sociology Departments' graduate programs. He served on the editorial board of City & Community and is on the international advisory board of Journal of Borderlands Studies. A recipient of numerous fellowships and grants in his fields of study, Mr. Chen has authored several books and more than 80 journal articles related to urban planning and policy.
UPDATE Performance at River Street School
The Instrumental Music Club is planning to give a concert at the River Street School, a local school for kids diagnosed with autism. This will be a great volunteer opportunity.
Dates to consider: April 12 and April 19 (both are Wednesdays).
Time: 2:30-3:30 p.m.
Loomis will provide transportation to and from RSS.
If you are interested in giving a performance (solo or ensemble), choose a date you would prefer (April 12 or 19) and email Ms. Bovell, Rosie Park or Andrew Donshik.
