NEW: Reflections on Charlottesville

On Monday, September 18, members of the LC faculty will share their reflections on the events that took place in Charlottesville last month as well as the broader issues surrounding those events. This frank conversation will begin at 7 p.m. in the Chapel.

Our hope for this event is that it will demonstrate how people from different backgrounds who hold different opinions and who claim different areas of expertise can find common ground while speaking plainly about a difficult topic. After the faculty members conclude their talk, members of the audience will be invited to offer their ideas or questions.

See the attached flyer for more information

NEW: Welcoming Week Kickoff: International Cookout

This Saturday, September 16th, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., you will have a chance to showcase your amazing culinary skills from your home country or your international heritage by participating in the International Cook-Out! Kitchens in each dorm will have the chance to produce home-made meals or dishes and to be shared with the Loomis Chaffee community. While cooking your dish from another culture, other students may watch and learn how it is prepared. Once all of the dishes are ready, each team will have a chance to share a little bit about how and when this dish is served so we can all learn more about cooking around the world. All are welcome to join! E-mail Jaci_Cardwell@loomis.org if you are interested in representing another country or culture!

What is welcoming week? Welcoming week is a celebration of cultures around the world. At Loomis Chaffee we welcome all cultural backgrounds. This week we will showcase how we as a community can benefit from welcoming all to campus and sharing what makes each country around the world so wonderful. This Saturday, we will begin by sharing favorite foods of LC students/faculty from around the world! We will also have a community mural where you can add drawings or favorite quotes from home and a photo booth with posters to welcome everyone to LC. For more information, see the website.

Katharine Brush Library

Welcome from the staff of the Katharine Brush Library. We look forward to assisting you with your academic endeavors. Please ask if you are uncertain how to find a book or use a database or if we have resources such as computer chargers, art kits, etc. for use in the library.

Please have your Student ID with you for evening study hall. This is the only way we have to take attendance. The attendance information is how we track usage numbers and how the dorm staff knows where you are in the evening. Day students, please check in during the evening hours also, as you are a part of our usage numbers.

A reminder of the study room use policy: Students wishing to pursue large group study (3-6 students) may use a study room on a first come, first serve basis. During evening study hall, the rooms must be signed out at the desk. The study rooms are not soundproof. It is important to remember this when you are using a study room in consideration for other library users. Many thanks for your cooperation.
