NEW: Weekend Signup Procedures

Check the Daily Bulletin to see if there is a weekend trip that you are interested in signing up for.
Find the LINK and fill out the necessary information. Pay close attention to the trip description on the Google Doc. Be on time and PER out of your dormitory!
Signups are ONLY done online. If you decide you cannot go, please give Mrs. DeConinck 24 hours advance notice so that others
can benefit from your spot. Communication is very important! NO SHOWS will be charged $10 on your LC account.

*Note: A Mall trip does not necessarily include the Movies. Please look for a Trip to the Movies!

UPDATE: First Pa'lante Meeting September 22 

On Friday September 22, Pa'lante, the latinx affinity group, will be hosting their first meeting of the year in the Longman common room at 8:45–9:30 p.m. (NOTE NEW TIME!) This event is open to all students who identify as a part of the latinx community. Food will be provided. RSVP by Wednesday September 20 to Elizabeth_Parada@loomis.org

NEW: College Office Miniseries: Fit Statements and Interview Prep

Seniors! Join the college counselors during Community Time on Tuesday, September 26 for two concurrent college workshops. In Room 203 of the library, we will be going over information to help you with your next college interview; and in Room 202, we will discuss the fit statement many colleges ask for as a supplement essay (the "Why Our College?" question). We look forward to seeing you at these events!

Get Baked Diaper Drive through September 22
Get Baked is holding a diaper drive for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Take a walk to get a coffee and help those in need! You can pick up diapers at CVS or Geisslers and drop them off at Get Baked! They are asking for: diapers sizes 4,5,6; Pull Ups sizes 2T-5T, adult diapers, and wipes. The drive ends this Friday, September 22. For more information, please contact Mrs. Heather Henderson, Director of Community Service.

Loomis Math Circle on Origami September 24 

Ever wonder how a square sheet of paper can become a piece of art? The LC Math Team is hosting an event for people interested in math on Sunday, September 24, 2 -3 p.m. focusing on origami and the math behind the art and science. Participants will get hands on experience trying to understand some of the amazing things that can be done with a simple sheet of paper. There is no minimum math requirement for those who are interested. You can sign up for the event and find more information on our sign-up form.

 

Yearbook Application due September 24

Hartt Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble September 25 

The University of Hartford Hartt School's Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble will perform in Hubbard on Monday, September 25, at 7:30 p.m. These college-level ensembles will perform a diverse and exciting one-hour program and all are invited! This is a great concert credit opportunity for all music students and will be a program to be enjoyed by all. Don't miss it!

Holocaust Survivor on Campus Tuesday, September 26 

Please join the Norton Center for the Common Good and Ms. Markman, Director of Student Religious Life, in welcoming Heidi Fishman, '80 and her mother, Tutti, for a special lecture on her experience surviving the Holocaust on Tuesday, September 26 during Community Time in Hubbard Performance Hall. All 9th graders are required to attend as part of the Freshman Seminar curriculum, but all in the community are strongly encouraged not to miss this rare opportunity to meet a Holocaust survivor.


Additionally, consider spending time with Heidi, author of Tutti's Promise, a book about her mother's life, over lunch during B5 that day. If you are interested in lunch with the author, please contact Eric LaForest to reserve your seat.

Hartford Stage Trip Wednesday, September 27 
All freshmen will be attending a morning performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Hartford Stage on Wednesday, September 27. Students should attend first period and then report immediately to Olcott. We will depart at 9:30 a.m. and return by 2 p.m. Packed lunches will be provided.

 

Windsor's Annual Chili Challenge Saturday, September 30 

The 22nd annual Windsor Chili Challenge will take place on the Town Green on Saturday, September 30 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission interviews and campus tours begin this week. To accommodate our visitors, please do not park in spaces reserved for Admission in the Richmond Hall/Health Center and Hubbard/Chaffee parking lots. Thank you.

Jewish High Holy Days Services September 30 

Any students interested in transportation to services for  Yom Kippur (Saturday, September 30) please contact Ms. Markman (Sara_Markman@loomis.org).

SCUBA Class

Loomis Chaffee will be offering an open water scuba class this winter here Hedges Pool (over four Sunday mornings in January and February). During the online class, you will learn all the knowledge needed to pass the final exam and in the pool, you will learn the water skills needed to be eligible to take the open water certification test in May in RI. Anyone interested please email Mike_Donegan@Loomis.org ASAP as space is limited.

Wall Street Journal and Newspaper Access

Through The Wall Street Journal's High School Donation Program, The Katharine Brush Library is receiving 15 print copies of the WSJ for the school year. You can pick up copies at the library's circulation desk each morning while supplies last.
 
In addition, The Brush Library offers a variety of newspapers through our databases, including the Los Angeles TimesWall Street Journal, and Washington Post. In addition, the library provides print copies of the Hartford CourantNew York Times, and Wall Street Journal on the first floor. 

Still time to join Community Service
Are you still looking for the perfect afternoon activity? Look no further.

The Gaining Ground program is looking for more people!! If you like to work with kids and be outdoors, then this is the program for you! Volunteer to work after school on Mondays and/or Fridays with local elementary school students and learn while you teach them about sustainable agriculture, where their food really comes from and maybe even bugs!! It is a great opportunity to get out of the classroom, get dirty and have some educational fun in the sun. The WISH school program is looking for more tutors to work with second grade students in their classroom. You will help them with their homework and engage them in fun educational games and activities. Community Service travels to the WISH School every Thursday from 3:45-5:15 pm. Contact Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. Lee for more information.
