This year’s Loomis Chaffee Summer Program wrapped up on July 30, concluding five weeks of discovery, connection, inspiration, and reflection for the 144 student participants in a relaxing environment appropriate for the season.

Jim O’Donnell, summer program director, says the feedback from this year’s participants was overwhelmingly positive.

“It was a huge success,” notes Jim. “The Wednesday afternoon themed experiential learning programs, which focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), writing, and nature, were especially well-received. We also appreciated how the new Best Self curriculum offered each student the opportunity to discover their talents and consider how best to impact the common good of their respective communities when they return home.”

More than summer school or summer camp, the Summer Program offers students in grades seven through twelve a well-rounded experience that combines academics and recreation with interesting experiences and just plain summertime fun. In addition to challenging and engaging course offerings, program participants learned about agriculture and sustainability, developed computer coding skills, traveled to Boston and New York City, took excursions to amusement and outdoor activity parks, attended a major league soccer game, participated in sports games and physical activities, and enjoyed barbeques, campfires, movies, and canoeing, among other outdoor activities and treats.

During the program’s final week, participants enjoyed the Show of Talent in the Hubbard Performance Hall. Caiden Stewart, a returning attendee, summed up the spirit of the Summer Program in his “LCSP Rap,” which he wrote and performed to thunderous applause from the audience.
