Reference and Instruction Librarian

Department—Katharine Brush Library

Supervisor—Director of the Library

Start Date—Late August 2012

Job Status— Faculty full-time (40 hours) academic year

The Katharine Brush Library at The Loomis Chaffee School is searching for a dynamic, progressive, and technology oriented Reference and Instruction Librarian. One of three professional librarians, the Reference and Instruction Librarian will assume the primary responsibility of coordinating a library instruction and information literacy program, including information literacy curriculum development and student assessment.

In addition to Library responsibilities, the faculty at The Loomis Chaffee School are responsible for a variety of activities typical to the boarding school environment, including advising, committee work, and other duties.

Qualifications and Skills

-       M.L.S. or M.L.I.S. from an ALA-accredited institution.

-       2 to 3 years experience as a professional librarian in a public, academic, or independent school library.

-       1 year experience teaching in a library instruction program.

-       An understanding of emerging information literacy practices, standards, and assessments.

-       An understanding of innovative library instruction techniques, such as active and self-directed learning pedagogies.

-       Working knowledge of social media and other emerging library technologies.

-       Proficiency working with digital library resources, including LibGuides, digital instructional tools, and eBooks.

-       Experience using a Library Management System, such as EOS, Innovative Interfaces, SirsiDynix, or Ex Libris.

-       Positive attitude, strong customer service skills, attention to detail, adept at customer service, and an ability to work independently as well as in a team.

-       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

-       Ability to work effectively with colleagues, faculty, and academically motivated high school students.

-       Collection development experience, especially in the Sciences.

-       Knowledge of screen capture software, such as Captivate or Camtasia.

-       Knowledge of HTML, XML, Java, or other development technologies.

-       Knowledge of statistical software.

-       B.S. in the Sciences.
