Sports Information Director and Head Field Hockey Coach Bobbi Moran presented at the Harrow Sports/National Field Hockey Coaches Association’s (NFHCA) Preseason Workshop at RPI on Saturday, August 9. Field hockey Olympians Andrea Wieland and Jill Reeve, head coach of Brown University, also presented.

“It was a great opportunity for coaches at the Division III, high school, and club level to get on the field and learn about key concepts and skills that will improve how we coach and work with our athletes, “ said Moran. “I was honored to be among those presenting on Saturday.”

Coach Moran was a part of a four-person panel on the college recruiting process fielding questions for participants on how to prepare athletes to play at the collegiate level. The panel included Syracuse University’s Allan Law, Kara Zappone from Siena College, and Bridget LaNoir head coach at RPI. Moran also gave a separate presentation from USA Field Hockey, FIH (Fédération Internationale de Hockey), and NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) on the 2014-15 rules of the game.

This is the second time that Coach Moran, who represents all of the high school coaches in the country on the Executive Board of the NFHCA, has been asked to present at the national level. In 2012 at the group’s National Convention in Philadelphia, Penn., Moran gave a talk to division I through high school coaches on how train athletes for an injury free season and high performance in field hockey. This January Moran will present again at the organization’s national convention in Rhode Island introducing field hockey specific yoga techniques and mental training tools

“I love working with other high school and college coaches. Having the opportunity to share our experiences, what we are learning about the sport and tips and techniques on the latest training methodologies has been a great experience for me. The fact that I can represent both the high school coaches in the country and Loomis Chaffee on the Executive Board is pretty awesome. It helps to put us on the field hockey map at the collegiate level. I also am thrilled that my assistant coach and former player Kathryn Mullin ’08 and her former teammate, LC’s new JV coach, Anna Giannoni ’08, will be able to participate in the NFHCA’s programs and workshops this year. It will help raise the level of play for all of our athletes. I am incredibly grateful to Bob Howe ’80 (Director of Athletics at Loomis) for giving us the opportunity to participate in this organization.”
