| Environmental Science students at the landfill |
The Town of Windsor is partnering with three Environmental Science classes at the Loomis Chaffee School focusing on the study of waste reduction and recycling. The students are collecting data on the amount of waste produced both on the Loomis campus as well as in the town of Windsor.
The students have the additional task of studying the scientific, economic, and personal benefits of recycling and what steps the Windsor community may take to reduce waste and increase recyclables.
Working as teams, Loomis students will develop proposals for information dissemination to Windsor residents. The proposals will likely include various methods of public education, which may include video or web—streaming formats. The anticipated completion of the project will be late January.
Recently, the students visited the Windsor landfill. The project was featured in an article in the Hartford Courant on December 18.
