Loomis Chaffee’s Theater & Dance Department presented the fall play, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, in the Norris Ely Orchard Theater on Thursday, October 27, through Saturday, October 29.

Set in the village of Salem, Mass., in 1692, The Crucible, is a powerful retelling of a dark time in history when people of a community were divided along the lines of tolerance versus intolerance, and good versus evil. Arthur Miller’s award-winning script, written in 1953, has been characterized as an allegory — symbolic of the anti-communist “witch trials” of the 1950s, and its themes and motifs also are relevant in the highly charged and divisive climate of today’s society.

The Crucible opened to the public on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. with additional performances on Fri., October 28, at 7:30 p.m., and Sat., October 29, at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
