Football Defeats Deerfield

The varsity football team beat Deerfield 45-42 in a come-from-behind victory at Deerfield on Saturday.

The opening quarter saw a lot of action with both teams making plays in the end zone. Each team scored two touchdowns in the first 10 minutes of action. Deerfield was able to squeeze in a third touchdown in the final minutes of the first quarter to take the lead 21-14. 

Going into the second half, Deerfield capitalized on a Loomis turnover and found the end zone again, extending its lead to 28-14. However, the Pelicans retaliated quickly and only four plays later hit a 50-yard touchdown pass. A missed extra point made the score 28-20 with 8:22 left in the second quarter. Later in the half, Deerfield scored another touchdown, and the teams entered halftime with a 35-20 advantage to Deerfield.

The third quarter was all Loomis, as the defense was able to hold off the attacking Big Green and give the Pelicans an opportunity to narrow the lead to 35-30.

The fourth quarter opened with another Deerfield touchdown, but the Pelicans would not let up. With 5:57 left in the game, Loomis found the end zone to narrow the lead, making the score 42-37.

As time was running out, Loomis rallied and once again crossed into the end zone to score the final points of the game and take the lead for the first time of the day. The final score was 45-42 in favor of the visitors.
