The girls soccer team won the Class A New England Championship with a 3-1 victory over Worcester Academy in the finals on Sunday afternoon.

After a delayed start due to the previous game going into penalty kicks, the Pelicans took the field ready to claim a title. Worcester, the No. 1 seed, got on the board first, but Loomis scored an equalizer before halftime.

The Pelicans opened the second half with their second goal of the game and five minutes later put away the third and final goal of the match. The 3-1 score held until time expired, making Loomis Chaffee the Class A New England Prep School Athletic Conference champions.

Junior Lia LaPrise scored two goals, assisted by senior Emma Trenchard and sophomore Erin Goss. Trenchard also scored a goal of her own, assisted by sophomore Taylor Douglas.

"What a weekend of soccer," said Sue Cabot, Loomis director of athletics, who was on site all weekend, "The girls played so well together and kept their focus and poise."

The Pelicans finished the season with a 17-1-2 record.
