Event Recap:Boys JV Puck falls to the Springfield Rifles
Playing their first home game of the season and last contest in the 2011 year the junior varsity team hosted the Springfield Riffles at the Johnson/Savage Rink.
The team was playing without two of their regulars due to game disqualification penalties from Saturday’s match with Williston so the team knew adjustments had to be made and players would need to step up and play hard.
The first period saw good scoring opportunities from both teams. However Nick Micelli ’13 was outstanding in net and didn’t allow anything past him throughout the period. Ben Caccavale ’14 scored the only goal of the period on a nifty passing pattern from linemates Mike Horowicz ’13 and Lukas Odematt ’13.
Lukas Odematt, on an assist from Horowicz would open up a two-goal lead early in the second period. However, the second period, once again, was the problem for the home team as Springfield regrouped and peppered Nick Kamm ‘14 (now in the nets) with multiple close-range shots, which had the Loomis defense on their heels. The visitors would score 5 unanswered goals that period taking a 5-2 lead going into the third period.
The two teams traded goals in the third period making the final score 6-3 for the visitors. Freshman goaltender Caleb Rudnicki stepped in the net for the Pelicans in the third period and made several good saves.
Defensemen Brian Denton ’14, Alessandro Schooley ’14, Jacob King ’14, Conor Byrne ‘14 and Sam Adler ’15 continue to improve their skills and we look forward to their continued improvement in 2012!
Goaltending has been the backbone of this team thus far this season with Nick Micelli ’13, Nick Kamm ’14 and Caleb Rudnicki ’15 all working hard and sharing time.
A special shout out should go to Taylor Roth ’15 and Jonah Adler ‘14. Both started the season as goalies and have changed positions to forward. They both come to practice with a great attitude and are making great strides in learning their new position!
Forwards Mike Horowicz ’13, Lukas Odermatt ’13, and Ben Caccavale ’14 lead the team in most offensive categories at this point. Zach King ’12 has returned to the team after some time away recovering from a football injury. He has been a big plus to have back as he has joined Eli Robbins ’13 and Will Parsons ’15 on the teams second line. Doug Gorman ‘13 has returned to the game of hockey after being away for a year. He joins Jesse Joffray ’14 as key members of the forward corps.
We go on break and start things up again on Jan. 5th as we return to school and prepare for the next game vs. Kent on January 7th. Let’s go J.V. Puck!
