The Loomis Chaffee field hockey program takes to heart the school's call for "Better and Grander Lives." Through the game of field hockey, players learn discipline, teamwork and the value of sportsmanship. We believe that these qualities, coupled with the effort and enthusiasm of a dedicated and experienced coaching staff, are what sets Loomis field hockey apart from the competition.
Each year Loomis Chaffee competes as one of the top teams in New England prep school field hockey competing against the top teams in both the Founders League and Class A hockey facing a demanding schedule which includes such talented opponents as Andover, Hotchkiss, Choate, Deerfield, Taft, Exeter, Nobles, Greenwich Academy and Westminster. The 2013 squad will be led by Charlotte Blumenthal, Hannah Oganeku and Sierra Semmel.
Loomis Chaffee prides itself on academic and athletic excellence. In each year seniors are elected to the prestigious National Field Hockey Associations Academic All-American Team, an honor for those student athletes who are able to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.65 or better in the first semester of their senior campaign. Loomis Chaffee has produced 13 Academic All-Americans in the past ten years. The 2012 squad also saw the addition of senior Leah Zavalick (Glastonbury, CT) elected to the All-American team.
We strive to bring in the best that sport has to offer in the fields of speed and conditioning training, sports psychology and nutrition for the female athlete. We shape our program around the fact that adolescent female athletes grow best when they are supported and challenged. Our teams provide the atmosphere to help our players become their best at all levels of play. Our athletes work together each day to develop their physical, mental and emotional game. As a result, the Loomis program has consistently qualified for the New England Prep School Class A championship tournament. LC is proud of the character and commitment its student athletes bring to the squad and looks forward to strong leadership from our varsity squad. LC FH has many alumnae who continue their play in college, the program is always happy to hear from its alumnae now excelling in top Ivy, Division I and III programs. Recent LC FH graduate Molly Paduda '10 was a member of the NCAA Division III Championship Bowdoin College Field Hockey Team in her freshman and sophomore campaign and was joined by LC grad Beth Findley '11 last season. Captain Shannon Ryan '11 has made her mark on the Trinity College team where she is a starter for the Bantams and former captain Cally Moran '12 has traveled to Brown University where she plays in goal for the Bears, she will be joined by teammate Leah Zavalick ’13 next fall. Coach Bobbi Moran has led the field hockey program since arriving on the Island in 2002. She played for Siena College where she captained her team in her junior and senior seasons. Assistant Coach Amanda Holland has joined the varsity staff in 2012, while former LC varsity assistant coach Marley Aloe-Matlack heads up the JV program. Coach Matlack was a standout field hockey and lacrosse star at Wesleyan University where she played for veteran coach Patty Kletcha-Porter. Betsy Conger, former head field hockey coach and current softball coach, returns at the helm of our III team along with LC field hockey alumna and former LCFH captain Kathryn Mullin '06 to inspire tomorrow's varsity athletes today. Each year we take great pride in the fact that several of the varsity athletes have worked their way up from our III program! Loomis field hockey has teams at the III, JV and varsity levels.
