Varsity Field Hockey Team

We will set a standard of excellence in the fields of

composure, sportsmanship, and mental toughness.

We will practice the way we want to play, with confidence, consistency, courage, and heart,

And we will be a Family

Both on and off the field.

LCVFH 2014

The Loomis Chaffee field hockey program takes to heart the school's call for "Better and Grander Lives." Through the game of field hockey, players learn discipline, teamwork and the value of sportsmanship. We believe that these qualities, coupled with the effort and enthusiasm of a dedicated and experienced coaching staff, are what sets Loomis field hockey apart from the competition.

Loomis Chaffee competes as one of the top teams in New England prep school field hockey, the Founders League and Class A hockey, facing a demanding schedule which includes Andover, Hotchkiss, Choate, Deerfield, Taft, Greenwich Academy and Westminster. The 2014 squad is led by Kristy Cheyne, Charlotte Gacek, Samantha Roy and Sierra Semmel.

Loomis prides itself on academic and athletic excellence. Each year seniors are elected to the prestigious National Field Hockey Association's Academic All-American Team, an honor for those student athletes who are able to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.65 or better. Loomis has produced 21 Academic All-Americans in the past eleven years. In 2013, senior Leah Zavalick (Glastonbury, CT) was elected to the NFHCA's All-American team.

We bring in speed and conditioning training, sports psychology and nutrition for the female athlete. We shape our program knowing that adolescent female athletes grow best when they are supported and challenged. Our teams provide the atmosphere to help our players become their best at all levels of play. Our athletes develop their physical, mental and emotional game daily. As a result, the Lomis program has consistently qualified for the New England Prep School Class A championship tournament.

LC is proud of the character and commitment its student athletes bring to the squad and looks forward to strong leadership from our varsity squad. LC FH has many alumnae who continue their play in college, the program is always happy to hear from its alumnae now excelling in top Ivy, Division I and III program. Recent LC FH graduates include Molly Paduda '10 a two-time member of the NCAA Division III Championship Bowdoin College Field Hockey Team and teammate Beth Findley '11. Captain Shannon Ryan '11 at Trinity College team where she is a starter for the Bantams and former captain Cally Moran '12 at Brown University who was joined by teammate Leah Zavalick ’13.

Coach Bobbi Moran has led the field hockey program since arriving on the Island in 2002. She played for Siena College where she captained her team in her junior and senior seasons. Assistant Coach Kathryn Mullin '08 returns to the Island. Coach Mullin was a 2007 LCFH team captain before attending St. Lawrence University. Coach Marley Aloe-Matlack heads up the JV program. Coach Matlack was a standout field hockey and lacrosse star at Wesleyan University where she played for veteran coach Patti Klecha-Porter, this fall she is joined by former varsity assistant coach Amanda Holland. Betsy Conger, former head field hockey coach and current softball coach, returns at the helm of our III team to inspire tomorrow's varsity athletes today. Each year we take great pride in the fact that several of the varsity athletes have worked their way up from our III program!

Loomis field hockey has teams at the III, JV and varsity levels. For more information on the Loomis field hockey program, please contact Head Coach Bobbi Moran at: Bobbi_Moran@Loomis.org or call 860.687.6596.
