Head Coach: Jim Dargati
Jim Dargati ’85 enters his 22nd season overall and 11th as head coach of the Loomis Chaffee boys basketball program. Coach Dargati joined the Loomis coaching staff in 1990 and spent 11 seasons as an assistant under his former coach and mentor Bob Southall.
Since taking over the head coaching reins in 2001, Coach Dargati has led the Pelicans to a new level of success and cemented the program's status as one of the premier Class A basketball teams in New England. Coach Dargati’s 10-year resume at Loomis includes a 2009 New England Championship, four 20-win seasons, and five New England Tournament Final Four appearances. Coach Dargati's teams have won more than 70 percent of their games, and he is the only Class A coach to guide his school to nine New England Tournament bids in the past 10 years.
During his playing career at Loomis, Jim was a team captain and helped lead the Pelicans to a New England Tournament Final Four berth. He earned All-New England honors and still holds the school’s single-season scoring record (27.1 points per game). A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Coach Dargati was a member of Jim Calhoun's first UConn team. After graduation, he played three years for Hall of Famer Marques Haynes' barnstorming team, the Harlem Magicians.
