Friday's forecast called for showers, but nothing dampened the spirits of those who arrived to play 18 holes at Wintonbury Hills Golf Course to kick off Reunion 2009 festivities.
Girls golf coach TJ Reap coordinated a lively day of golf for alumni, family, and friends. The forecast was shaky at best, and at one point in the day showers threatened to bring the tournament to a halt, but for the participants who came out to the Bloomfield course, nothing was going to stand in the way of a good time.
Many of the participants shot memorable rounds on the par-70 Pete Dye Championship Course at Wintonbury Hills. Golfweek named Wintonbury Hills the No. 2 course in Connecticut.
The tournament came down to a close competition between two teams that shot an impressive round of seven-under-par. The back nine decided the outcome, with the victors edging out their opponents with stellar putting on the tricky back field, which held the toughest holes on the links. Bragging rights for the day went to the foursome of LC parent Bill Curtin and faculty members TJ Reap, Bill Ball, and Chris Milligan.
Longest drive for the men went to Nick Bokron '05. Longest drive for the ladies went to Molly Giorgio '06. The closest to the pin competition was won by Travers Auburn '64.
English Department head Jeff Scanlon '79 emceed the 19th hole reception. Jeff announced the top teams and awarded prizes and raffle items to the majority of players. "This is an event that gets larger each year, and by the looks of the crowd we have this year, we will be sure to make this an annual event," noted Coach Reap.
