Varsity Basketball - Girls vs. Choate Rosemary Hall
Event Type: Regular
Advantage:Home
Date: February 1, 2012
Result:Loss
Score:37-43
Event Recap:
The Loomis Chaffee Girls Varsity Basketball Team missed an opportunity to sweep the season series against Choate by losing at home, 43-36.  An inability to convert on multiple, high-percentage shot attempts proved too difficult to overcome in the end. Junior Brooke Marchitto led the pelican scorers with 10 points.  Freshman Chynna Bailey was the leading rebounder for the pelicans with 6.

The Pelicans had another commanding win this week, this time against Choate Rosemary Hall. The 70-33 victory on Wednesday followed the team's 81-30 win over the Wyverns of Kingswood Oxford on Saturday.

The Pelicans claimed a decisive Founders League win at Kent on Saturday when the girls basketball team outplayed the Lions 66-22. Junior captain Samantha Roy led the team with 20 points. Following her were junior Vanessa Young with 17 points, senior captain Chynna Bailey with 11 points, junior Nancy Culverson with 10 points, junior Isabel Hanson with 9 points, and sophomore Emma Trenchard with 2 points.

Several Loomis teams host or head to holiday tournaments this week. Here is your guide to what is happening on and off the Island.

The girls basketball team used a disappointing one-point loss to Pomfret on Friday evening to turn it all around on Saturday when the Pelicans played Andover at home to a commanding 55-31 win.

Loomis senior Stephanie Jones signed her NCAA Divsion I Letter of Intent last week for Boston College where Steph will play basketball for the Eagles.

The girls varsity basketball team notched back-to-back wins on Thursday and Saturday to claim the Founders League championship and set a school record for most girls basketball wins in a season.

Junior Steph Jones scored her 2,000th career game point on Wednesday in Olcott Gymnasium as the girls varsity basketball team rolled past Suffield Academy 63-35.
