For many years, The Loomis Chaffee School has been known for its excellence in Girls Swimming and Diving. Consistently finishing among the top schools at the Division I New England Championships, the Pelicans have captured the New England title seven times, most recently during the 2006-2007 season. The team also has won the Western New England Championships (Bud Erich Invitational) 18 times and has produced more than 30 swimming and diving All-Americans and qualifiers. Loomis also has won the Founders League Championship eleven out of the last fourteen years.
In 2012-2013, the Pelicans look for their returning veterans as well as some talented newcomers to again make a splash in the New England scene. The Pelicans will have their sights set high once again, coming off last year's successful 6-5 dual meet season, a Founders League Title and a 5th place finish at the New England Championships. In addition, the Pelicans once again finished last season ranked in the top 10 in the nation in their class by the NISCA Dual Meet Team Rankings.
The team is composed of hard-working swimmers and divers for whom individual goals and improvement are as important as team goals. Head Coach Bob DeConinck, in his 27th year as a head coach and his fifteenth season at the helm of the Pelicans, has extensive experience coaching at all ability levels, assuring ample instruction and individualized attention in all aspects of the training program. Memo Alejandro continues to head up the very successful diving program.
For those swimmers who are looking to train in the off-season while attending Loomis Chaffee, the Aquabears, a very successful Connecticut Swimming USS club program, uses our Hedges pool as their training facility. Arrangements can be made to train with the Aquabears, coached for over twenty years by a Loomis Chaffee alumnus.
