From the Head of School
Welcome to the 2010-11 Annual Report and thank you to the 4,741 donors who contributed to Loomis Chaffee during the past fiscal year. The school is fortunate to have such a loyal and vast network of alumni, parents, and friends who help the school to advance its mission, year in and year out. We could not do what we do without you. A Loomis Chaffee education is the high quality that it is today because of the generosity of thousands of donors who ensure that our students are given the opportunity to pursue their “best selves and the common good” while here on the Island.
This past year was a busy and stimulating year for the school. Your philanthropic support was critical to our success. While the school received $6,752,756 in Total Voluntary Support, a record $2,708,026 of this was directed to the unrestricted Annual Fund. Thirty-four percent of our alumni rose to the participation challenge put forth by an anonymous donor, securing the school a challenge grant of $250,000 toward the financial aid endowment. In addition, 82% of our current parents participated in the Annual Fund, tying a record set in 2000. All of this support is so vital to our ability to operate Loomis Chaffee as well as possible, ensuring that today’s 677 Loomis Chaffee students are experiencing as enriching and stimulating a high school education as exists across the globe. Indeed our students, joined by our faculty, are very fortunate to be supported by you and our family of donors. In turn, I know that the end product, the 200 seniors who graduate each year, is one of which we can all be proud.
Thank you again for your generosity to the school, and I hope to see you on the Island or in my travels throughout the year.
