Members of Five O’Clock Shadow, a professional a cappella group, conducted masterclasses with Concert Choir and Digital Music students and performed for the Loomis Chaffee community on Friday, November 15.
During the masterclasses the six guest musicians discussed their craft and demonstrated their performance techniques as well as singing with the Concert Choir. They talked about ways to use technology to enhance vocal sounds; strategies for balancing a passion and talent for music and the need to earn a living; and best practices for maintaining vocal health.
During the evening concert in Hubbard Performance Hall, Five O’clock Shadow performed with members of the A Cappelicans, a Loomis student-led a cappella group.
Five O’Clock Shadow, based in Boston, has entertained audiences with upbeat pop and rock performances, including both original songs and cover arrangements, since 1991. The group has toured with the Boston Pops, Aaron Neville, Edwin McCain, Patty LaBelle, Cool and the Gang, James Brown, and other acts. The group also performed at an NFL Hall of Fame game, presenting the title song of the group’s 2001 award-winning album Wonders of the World.
Organized by Student Activities and the Music Department, the group’s visit to Loomis Chaffee was made possible with support from the Joseph Stookins Lecture Fund.
