Jazz Musicians Atla DeChamplain Quartet Visit the Island

The jazz musicians of Atla DeChamplain Quartet presented a community concert in Hubbard Performance Hall and led a masterclass for music students in Loomis Chaffee’s Jazz Improv Ensemble on Tuesday, December 10.

The quartet features vocalist Atla DeChamplain, Matt DeChamplain on piano, Matt Dwonsyk on bass, and guitarist Chris Morrison.

“What I really like about jazz is that it doesn’t have to be perfect,” Ms. DeChamplain said during the concert before performing three selections from her repertoire of popular jazz standards.

At the end of the one-hour concert, the professional musicians shared musical advice and joined in a jam session with students in Loomis’ Jazz Improve Ensemble directed by music teacher Ken Fischer.
