Musicians Qualify for All-State Music Festival

Nine Loomis Chaffee students earned places in the Connecticut All-State Music Festival, held at the Connecticut Convention Center and Marriott Hotel in Hartford from March 29 through April 2.

David Winer, director of the Loomis Chaffee Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, described the audition and selection process as “challenging and competitive.”

The selected Loomis students were freshmen Lexi Barry and Oscar Kong; sophomore Charlie Jiang and Max Jiao; juniors Maggie Hamel, Emily Khym, Amy Song, and Benson Wang; and senior Isabella Jiang.

These students and 500 other top high school musicians from around the state worked for three days in the All-State Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Chorus under internationally known conductors. The festival culminated with a concert including students in the All-State Jazz Band, Mixed Chorus, and Treble Chorus followed by a second concert for the All-State Orchestra and Band.

The All-State Music Festival was run by the Connecticut Music Educators Association.
