"Playing with the Past: Transmutation and Metamorphosis," an exhibition of artwork from The Waskowmium collection of contemporary art in Burlington, Vermont, will be presented in the Sue and Eugene Mercy Jr. Gallery from September 19 through October 26.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Josh and Marta Bernbaum, Clark Derbes, Gerard Ferrari, Ruth Hamilton, Mimi Magyar, Rebecca Morgan, Gwen Murphy, Kathy Stark, Oriane Stender, Venske & Spänle, and David Woolfe.
"The works in this show all take a significantly modern slant on artistic tradition(s), much like a song that seems to be reminiscent of something very well known that you just can't put your finger on," noted Mark S. Waskow, director of The Waskowmium, who curated the exhibition with Mercy Gallery Director Jennifer McCandless, who also heads Loomis' Visual Arts Department.
Jennifer said "Playing with the Past" is chock full of works in a variety of media that are whimsical, humorous, and exuberant and will be a great start to this year's series of Mercy Gallery exhibits.
Concurrently, an exhibition of work by Loomis' student emerging artists will be on display in the adjacent Barnes & Wilde Gallery. An opening reception for both exhibits took place on Tuesday, September 19, in the Richmond Art Center.
