Boys Soccer Tops Kent, Advances to New England Tournament

The boys varsity soccer team topped Kent 3-1 in the regular season finale on Saturday, November 9, earning a No. 4 seed in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference Tournament.

Facing nearly a must-win scenario to keep playoff hopes alive, Loomis entered the match with determination and focus, evidenced especially by senior striker and captain Akeim Clarke, who was a constant threat in the attack and a workhorse on the defensive side of the ball.

Clarke earned his first career hat trick for his efforts, scoring two goals in the first half and another in the second.

Kent put one on the board with a set piece midway through the second half, but the afternoon belonged to Loomis and a true team effort.

All available field players contributed valuable time, and the starting midfield of juniors Jon Murphy and Nick Bellak and sophomore Will Cleary were in excellent form, combining passes, switching the field of play, and controlling the tempo of the game, allowing for the offense to keep up its constant pressure.

A few hours after the final whistle, Loomis got news that it had earned the No. 4 seed in the NEPSAC Class A Tournament, with the right to host the quarterfinal match against a very gifted Milton Academy team on Wednesday, November 13, at 2 p.m. on Helfrich Field.
