Farrell Sets Record, Boys Cross Country Sweeps in Quad Meet

The boys cross country team defeated Northfield Mount Hermon, Hotchkiss, and Taft on Saturday, October 5, in a quad meet on the home course.

Perfect running conditions led to dozens of personal bests for the Pelicans, including a new course record from senior Matt Farrell, whose time of 15:00.7 sliced 37 seconds from the previous course record (set by an NMH runner at the same meet a year ago), and 40 seconds from his own previous best (also set at this meet a year ago).

Finishing up a few spots behind Farrell were junior captains Alejandro Rincon and Jake Lotreck, who raced hard against their counterparts and secured important points for the Pelicans. Sophomore Nick Hope and freshman Sam Kurian rounded out the Pelican scorers to help secure victories against all three opponents. Loomis squeaked past NMH with a 27-30 victory, topped Hotchkiss 19-40, and defeated Taft 18-44.

Sophomore Edward Zhao and senior captain Danny Cui, both running their first sub-18-minute 5Ks impacted overall scoring by way of displacement, finishing ahead of at least one of the scoring runners on each of the visiting teams.

Next up for the Pelican harriers is an important matchup against Choate and Deerfield at home on Saturday, October 12, in a combined varsity/JV race at 3:15 p.m.
