The girls varsity field hockey team took a short road trip to Ethel Walker on Wednesday, October 2, and exploded for a 5-2 victory over the Wildcats.
The Pelicans got off to a quick start as they were able to find the back of the net within the first two minutes as sophomore Maren Livingstone wove her way through a couple of defenders and found senior Anna Hurd on the back side of the goal.
Twenty minutes later, Hurd struck again, this time off of a pass from senior Bailey Prete. Prete carried the ball into open space and then rifled a backhand pass onto the stick of Hurd, who tucked the ball into the backboard of the goal to give the Pelicans a 2-0 lead.
The Pelicans did not take their foot off the gas, though, and the shots began to pour in from the Pelicans. Their efforts and offensive pressure were rewarded. Again it was Hurd who scored a goal, with an assist once again coming from Prete.
In the second half Ethel Walker rattled off two goals, but the Pelicans had answers of their own, as junior Gisele Todd and Prete both scored, with assists coming from junior Alex Darrah and freshman Maggie Johnson, respectively.
Up next, the Pelicans head to Westminster for a matchup against the Martlets at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 5.
