The girls varsity basketball team lost in the New England Prep School tournament semifinal 45-51 against the Tilton School on Saturday, March 7.
Loomis Chaffee left the Island early Saturday morning for Tilton in New Hampshire with hopes of upsetting the Rams and advancing to the New England Championship game. Loomis, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, had lost twice to the No. 2-seeded Rams earlier in the season.
From the first whistle, the game was close and stayed that way well into the fourth quarter. Much of the game was played within one to two points with Loomis and Tilton trading the lead. Both teams played solid defense and had offensive success off of great play.
In the end, though, Tilton was able to shut down a Loomis run late in the fourth quarter and hit some clutch foul shots before the final buzzer, winning the game by six points. Tilton went on to defeat top-ranked Marianapolis Prep in the tournament finals on Sunday.
The Loomis team would like to thank its four seniors, Abby Cannon, Cassie Hawthorne, Sky Hanley, and Bry Johnson, for their hard work and wish them well after graduation. The Pelicans finished the season 16-11.
