Girls Basketball Wins 50th Consecutive Founders League Game

The girls varsity basketball team defeated Kent School 63-27 on Saturday, January 11, to record its 50th consecutive Founders League win. The team’s last loss in the league came on February 20, 2013, almost seven years ago.

Despite a rather low-scoring affair in the first quarter due to solid defense from both teams, the Pelicans were able to pull away and take a sizeable lead in the second quarter. Loomis began to play faster, pushing the ball up the court as quickly as possible and pressing the Kent offense every chance possible. The Pelicans found success and caused turnovers, and they ended the half up 42-17, and cruised to a 63-27 victory.

After the game head coach Adrian Stewart gave his thoughts on his team’s 50th consecutive league win. “I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with the athletes and coaches we have had in our program. I’m proud of all they have accomplished on and off the basketball court at Loomis and beyond. Any and all success our team has experienced speaks to the culture within the program and our overall school community. We have always been process oriented, prioritizing leadership through service to the team as we strive to be our best selves always. Every athlete who has competed as a Loomis girls varsity basketball athlete should celebrate this accomplishment.”

Adrian became the team’s head coach in 2008.

The victory gives the Loomis team a record of six wins and three losses so far this year and should boost the team’s confidence before its game against perennial powerhouse Worcester Academy, which won last year’s New England Prep School Athletic Council AA Championship. The game is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, at Worcester Academy.
