The girls varsity ice hockey team fell to Phillips Andover Academy 0-2 on Saturday, March 7, in the semifinals of the Chuck Vernon Elite Eight Tournament, the highest-level New England Prep School Athletic Conference tournament.
After upsetting No. 2-ranked Tabor on Wednesday, the team traveled to Andover to take on the sixth-seeded Big Blue in a rematch of a game only 10 days ago, in which the Pelicans lost 3-2 in overtime.
Unfortunately, the Pelicans ran into a hot goaltender and didn’t seem to have an answer, as they played exceptionally well but simply couldn’t find the back of the net. Shots went off the post or just caught the pad of the opposing goaltender, and after Andover scored twice, the Pelicans couldn’t catch up.
“Seniors Jenna Stevens, Anna Hurd, Jenna Donohue, Chloe Behringer, Bree Bergeron, and Bobbie Roca all deserve recognition for the incredible careers they have put together on the Island, and we wish them the best of luck after graduation. They will be missed dearly,” said head coach Liz Leyden.
The Pelicans finished the season 19-7-1.
