Junior swimmer Alexa McQuaid will compete in the Canadian Swimming Olympic Trials in Toronto, Canada, this spring.
Alexa qualified for the trials in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke. She will travel to Toronto with Loomis head coach Bob DeConinck at the end of March to compete in these events. A complete schedule for the trials can be found on the Canadian Olympic Club website.
Alexa has broken two school records so far this season. On February 5, she broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.32, topping a record that had stood since 2004. Earlier this year, McQuaid eclipsed a 13-year-old school record in the 100-meter breaststroke. Her time of 1:15.31 was almost a full two seconds faster than the previous record. During the Pelican’s meet on December 18, 2019 against Sacred Heart, McQuaid swam the fastest time in Loomis history in the 50-meter freestyle, with a time of 26.82. There is no doubt that her record breaking days are not over!
