Congratulations to these student athletes for being named Pelicans of the Week by their coaches. The honor is given to students who stand out on the playing field as well as those who act as excellent teammates.
Boys Swimming & Diving
Senior captain Min Jun Jung and junior Matt Ryckman
The varsity swimmers and divers salute Min and Matt this week, though our accolades focus particularly on their leadership of the team during our training trip to Florida over New Year’s. Specifically, these two set a tone of hard work in the pool while fostering the kind of bonding that has helped to draw together the boys and girls on our teams. Because of the grueling nature of our training regime, without the spirit or focus that these two — and many others — delivered in Florida (and in so many ways since), our teams would be far less equipped for the upcoming challenges of our championship season. Because of their inspiration and because of the team’s dedication to that spirit, we approach the season’s climax with considerable optimism, and we thank Min and Matt for their commitment and their positive energy.
Girls JV Ice Hockey
Senior Avery Schildhaus
Avery, one of the team’s co-captains, started our last two games on defense and was instrumental in generating offense. She held her blue line and won small battles all over the ice, all while supporting her teammates. She helps make practice fun every day, and we are lucky to have her on our squad. Keep up the great work, Avery!
Boys Varsity Ice Hockey
Seniors Isaac Joshi and Tommy Costello
Tommy and Joshi connected on Saturday night for the only Loomis goal of the game in a 1-1 tie against Cushing. As important as the goal was, equally important are the commitment these two young men have made to our system and the excellent hockey they have been playing in the last couple of games. Quiet, focused, and determined to help the team any way possible, these young men deserve the nomination, and we hope they know that we have noticed their hard work. Nice job, fellas. Keep it going!
Boys III Basketball
Freshman Graham Wolman
Graham was a key figure in our win on Wednesday at Gunnery. As is the norm, he was our leading rebounder and contributed key baskets that helped bring us over the finish line as the victors. On Saturday against a bigger, faster, older, and stronger Suffield Academy team, Graham once again was a key figure defensively — with one really impressive blocked shot — and on the glass. He also was our game high scorer with 12 points.
