“As a school, we have not always lived up to our mission or our commitment to our Black students, faculty, staff, and alumni and to the larger issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. We have not done enough to create an environment where all of our students not only feel welcome and respected but also can thrive,” Head of School Sheila Culbert wrote in a letter to the Loomis Chaffee community in June 2020.
Her letter laid out a specific action plan for Loomis to deliver on its commitment to ensuring that the school is a learning, social, and workplace environment where diversity, equity, and inclusion are fostered, and a community where all people are valued and respected. The progress report details the steps that the school has taken so far on the action items.
