The boys hockey team defeated longtime rival Avon Old Farms 3-2 on Wednesday, January 24, in Savage/Johnson Rink.
The back-and-forth game lived up to expectations for a competitive matchup between these two teams.
Senior Sam DiMaio got the Pelicans on the board 14 minutes into the first period, thanks to assists from senior Andrew Lucas and sophomore Kennedy O'Connor. It was DiMaio's eighth goal and 12th point of the season.
In the second period, DiMaio and Lucas connected once again to find the back of the net. This time DiMaio assisted on a shot from Lucas, who fired one home from the point, giving the Pelicans a 2-0 lead with just over 13 minutes left in the period. The goal was Lucas's 18th point of the season. Senior Mark Amatetti also recorded an assist on the play.
Six minutes later, Avon responded with a goal of its own. Then, with 35 seconds left in the period, Loomis junior Andrew Peters scored his first goal of the season off of a pass from sophomore Alexander Krause, giving the Pelicans a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
In the third period, junior goaltender Kohl Reddy held the Winged Beavers to one goal, sealing the game for the Pelicans with a 3-2 win. The game was Reddy's second consecutive start and second consecutive win. He made 25 saves on 27 shots.
The team looks to continue its winning ways when the Pelicans host Andover at Savage/Johnson Rink at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 27.
