The boys varsity soccer team traveled to the northwest corner of Connecticut to take on Hotchkiss in their final road match of the regular season and defeated the Bearcats 2-1 on a cold and rainy evening.
Having struggled on the road this season, the team was focused on starting with energy and purpose, and did exactly that, scoring two goals within the first 20 minutes of the game. Senior Michael Suski and freshman Will Cleary scored goals one after another to give the Pelicans a 2-0 lead early in the match.
Late in the first half though, Hotchkiss snuck back into the game with a goal off a corner kick, and Loomis found the third goal to be elusive despite maintaining a strong majority of the possession and creating a few good scoring opportunities.
The halftime score held throughout an energetic second half that saw everything except a goal for the Pelicans. Loomis's central midfield, featuring senior Aidan O'Brien, sophomore Nick Bellak, and freshman Will Cleary, was dominant throughout the game, and the center back pairing of senior Chayne Bruneau and sophomore Eamon Moylan stymied the Hotchkiss counter-attack all game long.
The Pelicans begin their four game homestand tomorrow, October 31, against Avon Old Farms at 3 p.m. The game will be livestreamed on the Loomis Chaffee Athletics Livestream page for those that cannot attend.
