The boys track and field team hosted Andover, Avon Old Farms, Northfield Mount Hermon, and Taft for a twilight meet on Saturday and defended the nest well, defeating all four opponents while two Pelicans set new school records in the 3,000-meter run and the javelin.
The Pelicans won the meet with a total score of 148 points, while Avon Old Farms posted a score of 84.5, Phillips Academy (Andover) recorded 74 points, Northfield Mount Hermon scored 50.5, while Taft scored 0 points.
Sophomore Matt Farrell broke the eight-year-old school record in the 3000 with a time of 8:35.29. The previous record was held by Tully Hannan '10. Matt ran an excellent race and battled against another superb runner from NMH, but an impressive final two laps from Matt allowed him to finish ahead of his NMH foe by a few seconds.
Matt's new school record is faster than the New England Prep School Track Association's Division I Championship Meet record, so it will be an exciting race at New England's, which will also be held at Loomis on May 19.
Meanwhile, junior Tyler Delgado broke the javelin school record with a throw of 176' 10", surpassing a record that was held by Sam Wheeler '15. Tyler is relatively new to the sport and continues to improve, which bodes well for the end of the season and next year.
Six other individuals recorded victories in events on the day: senior Ross Kennedy in the long jump, senior captain Robert Allen in the triple jump, senior Arman Henry in the high jump, senior captain Deuce Ford in the discus, senior captain Ryan Durkin in the pole vault, and Heskin in the 800-meter race. The team's 4x400-meter relay team of Allen, senior Jacob Shichman, Heskin, and Kennedy also placed first.
Up next for the Pelicans is the Founders League Championships, which will be held at the Westminster School on Saturday, May 12.
