Faculty and staff gathered in the Hubbard Performance Hall on June 8 to mark the end of the school year and to recognize some individuals for their dedication and service to the Loomis Chaffee community.
Six employees were honored for passing the 20-year milestone in their service to the school: Molly Pond, history teacher and associate director of the Norton Family Center for Common Good; Jim Jubrey of the Physical Plant; English teacher Phyllis Grinspan; Director of Studies Tim Lawrence; Tim Dowd, grounds supervisor in the Physical Plant; and French teacher Delphine Robison.
The Austin Wicke Prize was awarded to science teacher Neil Chaudhary '05 and Head of the Classical and Modern Languages Department Rachel Nisselson. The prize, given in memory of Austin by his parents, recognizes faculty members with less than 10 years of service who demonstrate dedication to the discipline of teaching and commitment to fostering the growth and development of young people.
Four faculty members received the Distinguished Teaching Award, which recognizes the dedication and excellence of faculty members with more than 10 years of service. The award was created in honor of former faculty member Dom Failla. The four honorees were English teacher Jeff Scanlon '79, mathematics and philosophy teacher Curt Robison, Head of the Music Department Sue Chrzanowski, and Head of the History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Social Science Department Rachel Engelke.
Loomis Chaffee Orchestra Conductor Kalena Bovell was awarded a Palmer Fellowship for professional and curricular development in recognition of her expert teaching with the goal of fostering innovative pedagogy. The Palmer Fellowship was established by the Keller and MacLean families in honor of former faculty members Keith and Ann Palmer.
Service to the School Awards acknowledged staff members Debi Knight, Paul Gegetskas, Asmir Nurkic, and Joseph Billera; administrative faculty members Mary Forrester, Jim O'Donnell, and Eric Styles; and teaching faculty member Andrew Bartlett for their exceptional service and commitment to the school during the last year.
After the awards recognition, faculty and staff celebrated the end of the school year with a fun and festive "block party" complete with music, food trucks, and raffle prizes.
