The Loomis Chaffee debate team recorded 10 wins at last weekend's statewide tournament hosted by the Connecticut Debate Association at Fairfield Warde High School in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Students at the tournament debated both sides of the resolution, "Geo-engineering should be used as a tool to combat global warming." Winners from the Loomis team included seniors Dawid Hordejuk and Bill Pieroni; junior Burke Perrotta; sophomores Maral Asik and Alexa Valadez; and freshmen Victoria Che, Clara Chen, and Aidan Gillies.
As a result of their wins at the Connecticut tournament, the teams of Victoria and Clara and of Aidan and Maral qualified to compete in the state debate finals on March 24. They will join Dawid and Bill and seniors Milton Lee and Allen Park, who qualified at earlier tournaments.
Aidan earned the second highest speaker point total among the 114 freshmen and sophomores that competed in his division.
Curt Robison, faculty advisor to the debate team, congratulates the group on their success at the tournament and looks forward to coaching them at the finals on March 24.
