The University of Hartford's Hartt School of Music Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble presented an evening concert at Loomis Chaffee on September 25 in the Hubbard Performance Hall.
The Symphonic Band, directed by James E. Jackson III, performed works composed by David Maslanka and Ted King-Smith. Mr. Jackson is also principal euphonium musician in the U.S. Coast Guard Band.
The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Glen Adsit, performed a piece by Steven Bryant and "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Aldridge Grainger, guest conducted by Michael Carney. Mr. Adsit was awarded the University Larsen Award for Distinguished Teaching and will be conducting a masterclass for instrumental music students at Loomis on Friday, October 20.
The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford in Connecticut and offers degree programs in music, dance, and theater. Susan Chrzanowski, head of the Music Department at Loomis, as well as music faculty members Kalena Bovell, Jim Rickevicius, and David Winer are among the Hartt School's alumni.
