Sophomore Kennedy Anderson placed second in the 172+ weight class at the sixth annual Girls Wrestling Tournament at Phillips Academy on Sunday, January 27.
For the first time, the tournament also awarded a team trophy, which Northfield Mount Hermon won. Despite being the only wrestler on the Loomis squad, Kennedy earned Loomis four points, placing the Pelicans in a tie for ninth place out of 29 teams.
In order to reach the championship match, Kennedy won her first match against an NMH opponent via forfeit and then pinned her opponent from Andover in just under three minutes. In the championship match, Anderson was pinned by her opponent from Busksport High School to take second place.
Anderson also wrestled in an exhibition match against an opponent from Hotchkiss, earning a decisive 10-3 victory.
Next year's tournament will take place at Andover on January 26, where Kennedy will look to improve from this year and hopefully be joined by more wrestlers from the Loomis squad.
