The girls varsity squash tam defeated Williston Northampton 6-1 on Wednesday, December 11, for the team’s first win of the season.
Looking to bounce back from a tough loss over the weekend, the Pelicans entered their matches determined to finish off important points and capitalize on opportunities. The team got off on the right foot when senior captain Sadie Olcott, playing in the No. 4 spot, won her game decisively. Fellow senior captain Emily Lent, playing No. 5, followed Olcott’s effort with a win in convincing fashion as well.
It was especially exciting to see junior Alex Darrah, playing in her first match ever, win at No. 8, inspiring her teammates and serving as the sparkplug for the second round of matches.
The team then gathered around to watch junior Kendall Rice, playing No. 6, and freshman Princess Davenport, playing No. 1, win their matches after each dropped her first set. Their confidence never wavered, and, boosted by cheers from their teammates, they both found their strides and won the next three sets with calm and calculated squash.
Up next, the Pelicans take on St. Paul’s in a battle of the Pelicans on Saturday, December 14, at Deerfield Academy. The time of the match has yet to be determined.
