The girls volleyball team defeated Phillips Exeter Academy in straight sets on Sunday, November 18, to claim Loomis Chaffee's first ever Class A New England Prep School Athletic Conference title.
In front of a loud fan base, the Pelicans won in exciting fashion, taking the first set 25-15, the second set 25-23, and the final set 25-17.
Senior captain Maya Guyton led the way for the Pelicans, providing energy all over the court and dominating at the net, both defensively and offensively. She provided timely blocks and kills that excited and motivated both her teammates and the crowd.
Senior Reilly Campbell also shined, using her height and length to frustrate the Exeter offense with countless blocks and her impressive serving to set up Loomis for success on each point.
The fourth-seeded Pelicans got to the championship game by defeating No. 5 seed Noble and Greenough School 3-0 in the quarterfinals and then stopping No. 1 seed St. Paul's School 3-1 in the semifinals in New Hampshire. In NEPSAC volleyball tournament play, the higher seed hosts each game.
Since Exeter was the No. 7 seed, having defeated No. 2 Taft and No. 6 Choate to reach the finals, No. 4 Loomis was able to play the championship match on its home court.
Head coach Jeff Dyreson and the rest of the team would like to thank the families and fans who came out to support the team throughout the season and would like to thank all who attended the championship game and made the moment special for everyone.
