Alvord Center for Global & Environmental Studies
Alvord Center
Let’s bring about a better world.
Our world is interconnected in a multitude of ways.
With that premise in mind, the Alvord Center’s mission is to develop globally and environmentally engaged leaders who not only learn about the world and the environment but directly explore how they can play an active role in improving both.
Through place-based learning, purposeful travel, boots-on-the ground research, and real-world action, our students and faculty develop important global and environmental skills that enable them to empathize with others; better understand local and global trends and issues; and develop and put into action innovative and collaborative solutions to problems — both large and small — affecting our world.
Global & Environmental Studies Certificate Program
A comprehensive program of study based on the four learning pillars of the Alvord Center Engaged Citizenship Matrix: Seek Knowledge, Enhance Understanding, Develop Skills, and Take Action.
International Education Programs
Short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs focus on providing our students with opportunities to engage in active, inquiry-based learning and to cultivate meaningful connections to people and places beyond The Island.
Environmental Sustainability
A diverse research and place-based experiential education program immerses students in hands-on, collaborative learning and action-driven stewardship.
