Application Process

Our interview slots are currently full for candidates applying for the fall of 2024. However, there are other ways to share information about yourself with the Admission Committee. See “Tours & Interviews” for more information.

Tours & Interviews

Loomis Chaffee accepts both the Gateway to Prep Schools application and the Standard Application Online (SAO). We have no preference; choose the one you feel tells us the most about you. (You should not, however, submit both.) To complete your application, you must pay your application fee via credit card or submit a fee waiver. If you wish to request an application fee waiver, you must contact us directly. The application fee is $75.00 for students who are living in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, and $160.00 for students living in a country outside North America.

NOTE: If you are planning on applying for financial aid, make sure to indicate this on your admission application, otherwise you will not be considered for financial aid in the admission process. Learn more about the financial aid process and get answers to frequently asked questions.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Loomis Chaffee requires official transcripts to be submitted directly by your current and previous schools, if applicable. Transcripts must include both the current school year’s courses and the most recent grades as well as grades from the prior academic year, e.g. applicants to grade 10 should submit transcripts from both grade 9 (current) and 8 (prior). Candidates for admission to grade 11–postgraduate must include all current and completed years of high school coursework and grades on their transcripts.

Required Recommendations

Loomis requires three recommendations: the current English teacher, the current Mathematics teacher, and the School Report (typically submitted with the transcript and completed by a school official).

In addition, we require the submission of the Parent/Guardian Statement for all candidates.

Optional Recommendations

While not necessary, in some cases additional recommendations can provide a more complete picture of an applicant. If you decide to submit a personal recommendation or additional academic recommendation, be sure to choose someone who knows you well and can provide information that is not available to us in other parts of your application.

We strongly recommend applicants who are not submitting testing provide an additional academic recommendation for review.

Loomis Chaffee does not require standardized testing except for those students whose first language is not English and who have had fewer than two years in an English-instruction school. English proficiency can be demonstrated through either the TOEFL or IELTS exam. We do not currently accept Duolingo for proof of English proficiency. International Applicants

If you are not submitting test results, we strongly encourage the submission of a third academic recommendation (see “Recommendations” above). Whether submitting testing or not, it is vitally important that your student submit the Test Optional Form on their Loomis Chaffee admissions portal to indicate whether they are planning on submitting standardized testing for us to review. An application will not be considered complete and ready for review until this form has been submitted.

If you wish to submit testing in support of your application, we prefer the SSAT or ISEE for applicants entering grades 9 and 10. The Loomis SSAT code is 4672. We prefer the PSAT, SAT, or ACT for those students applying for grades 11–postgraduate. Please note all testing must be sent by the official testing agency and received by February 1, 2024. Testing Policy

Loomis Chaffee will not review any multimedia links to your interests (e.g. athletic, visual/performing arts, or other) that you may have provided on your application. If you wish share multimedia links or additional electronic documents of any kind, they must be emailed to admission@loomis.org in order to be included in your admission file.
