The Path of the Pelican

“No school in the world has as thoughtful a mascot as we do.”

The path for you is the Path of the Pelican.
No school in the world has as thoughtful a mascot as we do.
Not for us the leaping tiger, the soaring eagle, the ravenous bulldog.
No, for us, a funny creature, ungainly some might say.
But this is the bird that feeds its young, even with its own blood.
This is the right symbol for an education for duty and reverence for life.

— John Ratté, former Loomis Chaffee Headmaster, 1976–1996

When you enroll at Loomis Chaffee, you join Pelican Nation. Our mascot rallies team and school spirit. It is a great source of school pride — connecting generations of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and parents to our Founders and their belief in the lifelong pursuit of the best self and the common good.
