What do we now know about how people learn? A fast-growing body of information is available on the topic due to current interest in neuroscience, especially as it applies to learning and education. Join Scott MacClintic '82, Loomis Chaffee science teacher and Director of the Kravis Center for Teaching & Learning, for an interactive presentation on the latest brain science behind learning at all stages of life on Saturday, June 17 at 9:45 a.m.
June 16–18, 2017
Classes ending in 2 and 7 — It's your year! Make plans to return to the Island and reconnect with classmates, faculty, and friends.
Rebecca Pacheco '97 is the author of Do Your Om Thing: Bending Yoga Tradition to Fit Your Modern Life and an award-winning yoga and meditation teacher. She is excited to share her knowledge with fellow alumni and Reunion-goers. This session, on Saturday, June 17 at 2:30 p.m., will be inspiring, instructional, and interactive. No yoga experience (or mat) needed. Instead, enjoy a fun and philosophical conversation based on Rebecca's book, featuring time-tested ways to experience the benefits of yoga and meditation off the mat—where most of our lives are lived.
Enjoy an opportunity on Friday afternoon to experience objects from the Archives that Loomis Chaffee teachers have used in their classrooms this year. On Saturday, learn how the Chaffee School's blue willow china links to stories from around the world and across centuries – and even take a piece of history home!
On Friday a little Honey Train is all you'll need to get you warmed up for the weekend, while Saturday evening features the eight-piece musical juggernaut Soul of Boston. All music will be performed under the tent in Grubbs Quad.
Reunion is not only a time to re-connect with your classmates and friends off the field, but also on it. Dig out your golf shoes, tennis sneakers, and lacrosse gear for some exercise and friendly competition throughout the weekend. Start off Reunion 2017 on Friday morning by hitting the links on the private grounds of Tumble Brook Country Club. On Saturday afternoon, bring your racquets for some friendly round robin tennis action on the newly renovated Shimkus Tennis Courts.
Our Time Is Now: The Centennial Campaign for Loomis Chaffee is our most successful fundraising endeavor in history. How much money did we raise? What records did we set? Where did the funds go? How did they bring distinction to the school? How did they raise our visibility and strengthen our reputation? Head of School Sheila Culbert and Associate Head for External Relations Nat Follansbee will address these questions and others on Saturday, June 17 at 3:30 p.m.
Be sure to receive all information and communications in regards to the weekend by completing the Reunion Survey.
If you would like to volunteer and assist with fundraising, communications, or class events for your reunion, please contact the Office of Alumni & Parent Relations, Michelle Carr at firstname.lastname@example.org or Associate Director of the Annual Fund Sarah Raicik at email@example.com.
Literally digging! When you arrive on campus, construction for the new campus center (to open in the fall of 2018) will have begun, so the campus will be even busier than a typical Reunion Weekend. The construction zone will include areas around the dining halls and the entire Rockefeller Quadrangle. We ask for your patience and cooperation, and encourage your attention to campus signage. Maps that identify alternative event and activity locations will be available for the weekend. Hard hats are not required!
The following classes have created a Facebook group page. Click on the link to see and post photos, share memories and be a part of the conversation.
If you do not see your class here and would like to start a group, please contact your class liaison to be connected with your Reunion volunteer committee.
Our promise to provide the best education to our students is an endeavor we proudly share with you. Your support allows our students, faculty, and alumni to continue creating positive change in the world. Before you head back to the Island to celebrate, mark your reunion with a special gift to the Loomis Chaffee Annual Fund this year!
