The View from Above
Aerial views taken of the Island campus over the years show changes in the built landscape as well as the enduring and striking features of the unique physical landscape surrounding the school. Travel through time and take in the “view from above.”
1921, Looking South
One of the first aerial views of Loomis shows the grand open spaces of the early campus and the distinctive colonial revival architecture.
1931, Looking North
For many decades, the Loop Road passed between Mason and Gwendolen Halls and continued behind the William H. Loomis Dining Hall.
1952, Looking East
This photo shows the Meadows in use as farm fields while athletes practice on fields on the west side of campus. A raised wooden running track can be seen the right foreground of the image.
1961, Looking North
The Clark Science Center, dedicated in 1961, stands just north of the school’s farm. The Loomis dairy herd was dispersed at auction in 1962, and the buildings were demolished not long after.
