That sound you heard in Erickson Gymnasium on February 20 — other than the former III players talking smack — was a friendly game of basketball, a tradition that started about 20 years ago. And let’s rephrase that: a friendly yet competitive game. Former III players still at Loomis but not on the team vs. current III players.
Seven Loomis Chaffee athletes competed in the USA Track and Field New England Championship on Sunday, February 18, at Harvard University.
Team managers, quite simply, take care of the little things on game day. Yet none of what they do on game days is simple or little; it all adds up.
Bob DeConinck coached his final home meet at the helm of the Loomis Chaffee varsity girls swimming and diving team on February 10, and a large crowd gathered to celebrate his long coaching career and legacy. Among the crowd were parents, coaches, teachers, students, and over 30 Loomis alumni who had been mentored by Coach DeConinck in the past.
The Loomis Chaffee varsity boys squash team won the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Class C championship on Saturday, February 11, advancing undefeated through the tournament and winning the final match 4-3.
While Loomis Chaffee sports teams have had great success at the varsity level this winter both on and off the scoreboard, that strong culture also has translated to the JV and III level.
The Loomis Chaffee girls basketball team is in a groove this season. The team’s record currently sits at 13-3, and the Pelicans have lost only one game since December 17.
The Loomis Chaffee boys swim team won in thrilling fashion in Hedges Pool on Saturday, January 20, in a meet against Hopkins that included multiple lead changes and a final score of 91-89.
