Athletes Break Three School Records at New England Championship

The girls track and field team took home third place at the New England Prep School Track Association Division I Championship meet on Saturday, May 21, and members of the team broke three school records on the day.

Sophomore Sam Mancini broke a nine-year-old school record in a preliminary heat of the 100 meters then lowered the record further in the finals , which she won with a mark of 12.47 seconds. Her time is the ninth fastest in the state of Connecticut so far this year.

Senior captain Willa Hock broke a 10-year-old record in the 300-meter hurdles, setting a new time of 45.18 seconds and placing second in the event. Her time is currently the second fastest in Connecticut this year.

In a dramatic finish to the meet, the 4x400-meter relay team placed second in record-breakting fashion to clinch the team’s overall podium finish. Their time of 4:05.92 broke a record previously set in 2012. The team, consisting of sophomore Chloe Kahn, juniors Izzy Balise and Nell Williams, and Hock, ran the eighth fastest time in the state so far this year.

These performances, among others, helped the team take third in the championship meet, capping off a tremendous season that saw the Pelicans take home a Founders League title.
